    Red Devil Fish

Sciaenops or Red Drum. It's a red colored salt water fish from the Atlantic.

  3. Ryan Ritter:

Crimson Snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus) -- which I like better than simply "Red" Snapper.

  4. Michael Konrad:
    Jan 04, 2012 at 01:34 PM

I was just about to submit Red Snapper, but looks like someone beat me to it with the similarly named Crimson Snapper. In any case, I still like the sound of it, so I propose Red Snapper. "Snapper" is an appropriate sounding word for a hoppy beer.

    How about "Hopsolutely Red".

  6. David Weaver:
    Jan 04, 2012 at 05:51 PM

Jersey Devil. Fun mythology from down in the pines, which alludes to the red and hoppiness of this brew.

How about -- HopFish Red. Can't wait to have it at the Irish Mile in a firkin!

Since this new beer is a West Coast red, what about Flying Fish's Scarlet Sequoia Ale. Sequoias are giant redwood trees native to California - grown in the same area as the hops for this beer.

Exit 9 and the Scarlet Knights are located near the Raritan River. How about Raritan Red? There must be plenty of Fish in that river!

"Rockfish Red". Named for the Pacific Ocean Perch (Rockfish from NE Pacific). Since your beers pair nicely with food, this particular beer can help raise awareness to seafood caught from sustainable fisheries.

  15. Marlon Rimando:
    Jan 05, 2012 at 12:45 AM

    "Rockfish Red Ale"

I know it will be very, very tastey………...

How About Red Shad Ale? NJ has a Shad festival each year (in Lambertville). The American Shad is the largest fish in the herring family. Perhaps This fish could be the "largest beer" at Flying Fish Brewery?

  22. Michael Morley:

Hey the heck did 2 people come up with the same idea at nearly the same time..

    Diablo Rojo = red devil

Basically I named my beers using Spanish or Latin translations makes up for my poor brewing capabilities.

Sunset Beach IPA. Refering to the often red sunsets that can be seen from Sunset Beach in Cape May Point. Also a tie in to the west coast Sunset Beach (CA).

How about Red Devil, Red Sea, Red Tail, or Fed Fish Red as a homage to the feds denying the original name.

  38. Evan:
    Jan 13, 2012 at 03:36 PM

    Col. Henry's Red Ale!
or Raritan River Red (which further caries the subtle reference to the color of everyone's shoes when it rains and gets muddy due to the high iron content in the ground soil around campus)

  39. JH:
    Jan 13, 2012 at 04:24 PM

Nice and simple and still a nod to Rutgers, just drop the K so as not to violate any trademarks: Scarlet Night or Scarlet Nights

  40. Christian Geisler:
    Jan 13, 2012 at 05:54 PM

How about Red Eye Ale? It would fit with the flying aspect of your name since red eye is usually the late night flight. Also it could have the connotation of the devil as well.

  41. Gerry Nigro:
    Jan 15, 2012 at 03:22 PM

Since we are talking about FLYING fish and a hoppy ale which to me is a strong battling type ale I thought a great name would be 'Red Baron'.

How about "Red Line" Ale or "SpeedLine Red Ale" or "Hi Speed Red". You've already paid homage to the NJ Turnpike, how about a shoutout to the transit link b/w NJ & Phila.? Plus, the PATCO HiSpeed Line is always depicted in red on the local transit maps.

I think you keep it Red Fish, then continue with a Blue Fish, One Fish, Two Fish.... or Jersey Devil Ale.

  48. Michael Orloski:

Red gurnard - the feisty sea robin

  49. Alex Leybovich:
    Jan 20, 2012 at 07:33 PM

SEA-ING RED (a fishy play on seeing red) alluding to both fish and the color, while still maintaining a unique and playful name. Now, to avoid having to put a dash on the bottle (and because it looks silly as "seaing" separate the SEA and the ING with the flying fish logo

  50. Alex Leybovich:
    Jan 20, 2012 at 07:47 PM

As an added bonus, here's even a little label I worked up for the SEA-ING RED name: http://lehighdesigns.com/red.png (copy and paste)

  51. Roycondell:
    Jan 26, 2012 at 09:53 AM

this one is easy - Chum.
    It has multiple meanings:
Chum is a slang term for a (usually male) friend.
Chum - a bait (luring substance) for fish, including sharks

  52. Rob Burrough:
    Jan 30, 2012 at 02:08 PM

3-C Red (or 3-Sea Red) - referring to both the 3 different hops starting with "C" and Flying Fish live in the sea.
